Over the years, Scott Mueller and Que have published 17 editions of Upgrading and Repairing PCs. In addition to that excellent body of work, they added Upgrading and Repairing (a) Laptops, (b) Linux, (c) Networks, (d) Servers, and (e) Windows to the Upgrading and Repairing series.
Typically, each new, numerical edition of Upgrading and Repairing PCs includes new content plus updating of previous material. That keeps Upgrading and Repairing PCs up to date with the newest computer hardware.
However, there was only one printing of Upgrading and Repairing PCs, Linux Edition. In an e-mail discussion, we asked Scott Mueller why the Upgrading and Repairing PCs Linux Edition had not been updated.
MozillaQuest Magazine: Your "Upgrading and Repairing PCs Linux Edition" is several years old. Why have you not published an updated edition of the Linux version?
Scott Mueller: Unfortunately, the first one didn't sell well enough to justify creating a new edition. Purely economics from the publisher's point of view.
MozillaQuest Magazine: Other than the drivers, what do you see as the main differences between building, upgrading, and/or repairing Widows-based PCs and Linux-based PCs?
Scott Mueller: That's about it. My book is mainly about hardware, and hardware is hardware, no matter what OS or apps you are running.
