Mandrake Linux 8.1 Released for Downloading

Mandrake Linux released its latest offering, the Mandrake Linux 8.1 operating system (OS) distribution for downloading today. Along with Caldera, Red Hat, and SuSE, Mandrake is one of the four leading Linux OS distributions

Mandrake Linux 8.1 includes the new Linux 2.4.8 kernel. You cannot buy the shiny, shrink-wrapped package at retail stores yet, but you can download it from the Mandrake FTP site, or one of its mirror sites, now. Boxed product should be available by the end of October.

According to the Mandrake Linux 8.1 Press Release and other Mandrake information, Mandrake Linux 8.1 includes both the GNOME 1.4.1 and KDE (K Desktop Environment) 2.2,1 windows-like desktops.

Emphasis on desktop here, folks. Looks as though the Linux desktop is live and well.

The new KDE 2.21 desktop features an improved Konqueror browser and file manager. And for you Mozilla fans, Mandrake Linux 8.1 ships with Mozilla 0.9.4.

We have not checked Mandrake Linux 8.1 yet. However, here are excerpts of a Mandrake Press Release announcing the availability of Mandrake Linux 8.1.
