Mandrake Linux 9.1 Retail Packs AvailableAlso Available for DownloadingMike Angelo -- 6 May 2003 (C)If you have been breathlessly awaiting to get your mits on Mandrake Linux 9.1 boxed sets, wait no more. Gaël Duval, Co-Founder of MandrakeSoft, told MozillaQuest Magazine earlier today that the Mandrake 9.1 packs ... are now available for ordering from the Mandrake store. Mandrake Club members get 20% off on 9.1 orders made at MandrakeStore. The Mandrake Linux 9.1 operating system (OS) has been available for download since 26 March 2003.Mandrake Linux 9.1 is an easy-to-install and easy-to-use GNU/Linux operating system distribution. We have not completed our Mandrake Linux 9.1 testing yet. However so far, it seems to be even better than Mandrake Linux 9.0, which we gave very high marks. A very handy update since Mandrake 9.1 is the new KDE Konqueror file manager and Web browser. It now has tabbed browsing and many other improvements. The updated Konqueror DHTML layout engine is fast and seems to do a nicer job than does Mozilla's Gecko layout engine A big improvement in Mandrake Linux 9.1 over 9.0 is that LinNeighborhood is included as part of the Mandrake Linux 9.1 distribution. Moreover, LinNeighborhood was installed and configured transparently during the Mandrake 9.1 installation process. Even better, LinNeighborhood was up and running when the newly installed Mandrake 9.1 operating system was booted for the first time. And better yet, Mandrake 9.1 on its own had found all the other Linux boxes and the MS Windows boxes on the LAN. It also found the Internet gateway from our LAN to the Internet. Very impressive, indeed.
Here are some new and improved features that Mandrake's Gaël Duval mentioned to MozillaQuest Magazine in an e-mail message about the Mandrake 9.1 release:
Mandrake is one of the leading and most popular Linux OS distributions. MozillaQuest Magazine found Mandrake Linux 9.0 to be Desktop Magic You Can Use right out of the box. MandrakeSoft distributes Mandrake Linux 9.1 retail packs which come in two-CD Standard ($40), seven-CD PowerPack ($69), and eight-CD plus one workstation DVD ProSuite ($199) editions. The basic, core, version is available for free downloading now. Mandrake 9.1 will update and replace Mandrake 9.0. MandrakeSoft also produces and distributes Mandrake Linux Corporate Server 2.1, which according to MandrakeSoft provides all the tools needed to create a full-featured enterprise network, complete with the latest up-to-date software and security updates. The Mandrake Linux PowerPack and Standard editions are designed for individual users, and the ProSuite Edition is created for small and medium-sized enterprises. The Corporate Server 2.1 release announcement states that Mandrake Linux Corporate Server 2.1 is a comprehensive and versatile Linux solution that provides large accounts with critical business server functions . . . The Corporate Server includes MandrakeClustering tools. Here is an excerpt of the 26 March 2003 Press Release with more details.
