Turmoil in MozillaLand:
Current Status of Mozilla 1.0, 1.0.1, and 1.1-Alpha

MozillaLand is in a bit of turmoil as the Mozilla Organization works towards pushing Mozilla 1.0 out the door.
The 29 May 2002 Mozilla 1.0 branch builds are in the can for the final Mozilla 1.0 release. However, the Mozilla Organization has not yet made its official Mozilla 1.0 release. Mozilla 1.0 still is not listed in the current Mozilla Development Roadmap schedule (Figure 3, below). Nevertheless you can download what for all intents and purposes is Mozilla 1.0 now.
Meanwhile, the Mozilla 1.0 branch has been retagged for the next milestone (Mozilla Milestone 1.0.1) on the MOZILLA_1_0_BRANCH of the development tree. The MOZILLA_1_0_BRANCH now is open for approved checkins.
It appears that Mozilla 1.0.1 dailey development builds are being posted to ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest-1.0.0/
The Netscape developers will be sharing control of the MOZILLA_1_0_BRANCH during its Mozilla 1.0.1 phase. Add that to the tight checkin approval for the MOZILLA_1_0_BRANCH during the 1.0.1 development phase on the Mozilla 1.0 branch. That suggests that Netscape will be basing a Netscape 7.x release on the Mozilla 1.0 code. Whether that Netscape release will be Netscape 7.0 or Netscape 7.0-PR2 remains to be seen. (Netscape 7.0-PR1 was released on 22 May 2002.)
Meanwhile the Mozilla 1.1-alpha development program on the main Mozilla development tree trunk has slipped substantially. Apparently this, at least in part, is because the Mozilla developers were focusing their attention on the Mozilla 1.0 product. For all intents and purposes, development work on Mozilla 1.0 now is completed.
The February 2002 edition of the Mozilla Development Roadmap Schedule had set Mozilla 1.1-alpha tree-freeze for 1 May and release for 10 May 02. Please see Figure 1.
Then earlier this month the Mozilla Development Roadmap Schedule was adjusted to show the Mozilla 1.1-alpha tree-freeze for 15 May 2002. However, the Mozilla 1.1-alpha milestone tree-freeze has not happened yet. Please see Figure 2.
So, yesterday, the Mozilla Organization again adjusted the Mozilla Development Roadmap to reflect the Mozilla 1.1-alpha milestone slippage. The Mozilla Development Roadmap Schedule now sets the 1.1 alpha tree-freeze for 5 June and release for 12 June 2002. Please see Figure 3.
In summary here is the way the Mozilla development plan stands at this time:
In any event, look for the likely Mozilla 1.0 release anywhere from now to 12 June 2002. MozillaQuest Magazine (mozillaquest.com) will let you know as soon as it is released and MozillaQuest will have the download links and release notes information for you too.
In the meantime, please check the MozillaQuest Magazine Front Page (mozillaquest.com), and the right sidebar there, regularly for more news about Mozilla 1.0 and up-to-date Mozilla bug counts.
