Downloading tip.

Create a special directory specifically for housing full program downloads such as the full Netscape 6.0 package you download in Step 2, below. Then every so often, burn the downloaded full program installation files on to a CDR or CDRW. That way you have a permanent archive of downloaded program installation files -- and you can remove those files from your hard drive to free drive space.

Downloading Step 1:

Create a directory on your local hard drive for the Netscape 6.0 installation package that you are about to download.

Downloading Step 2:

Point your FTP client or FTP capable browser to the URL listed below for your operating system. Then locate the designated file in that directory.

(Editor's Note: The current Netscape version is 7.0-PR1. Please see Netscape 7.0-PR1 Browser-Suite Released for updaed download links and release information.)

File = N6Setup.exe

Size = 25,389 KB

Date = Thu Nov 09 09:58:00 2000

File type = Binary Executable

File = netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu-sea_tar.gz

Size = 29752 KB

Date = Thu Nov 09 10:03:00

File type = 2000 Unix Tape Archive

(Note: if you try to look at that FTP Linux directory in Windows you might see netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu-sea_tar.tar instead of netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu-sea_tar.gz. Don't worry about that. When you go to download it in Linux, Linux will get it right.)

File = MacNS6FullInstaller.sea.bin

Size = 14613 KB

Date = Thu Nov 09 10:08:00 2000

File type = Binary Executable

Downloading Step 3:

Download the NS-6.0 full install package for your operating system (OS) listed in Step 2 to the local directory you created in Step 1, above.

This download will take some time, particularly if you are using a telephone-line modem to connect to the Internet. However, there is no use to getting upset with how long it takes to complete this download. You only have to download the install file once. (Please see the downloading tip above.)
